The 1st of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1431 fell on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010. Expect the 1st of Rabi-ul-Thani to be on Wednesday March 17th, 2010. Important dates during this month include:

Tuesday 8th Rabi-ul-Awwal (February 23rd): Wafat – Imam Hasan al-Askari (A)
Thursday 17th Rabi-ul-Awwal (March 4th): Wiladat – Holy Prophet (S) (Milad-un-Nabi)

Condemnation on the massacre against Shia pilgrims

Whoever killed a human being, except as a punishment for murder or other wicked crimes, should be looked upon as though he killed all mankind; and that whoever saved a human life should be regarded as though he has saved all mankind. (5:32)

No words of denouncement and condemnation of the perpetrators of the horrific terrorist attacks in Iraq & Pakistan as devout Muslims and lovers of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) commemorated the Arba’een (40^th day) of Imam Husain’s (A) martyrdom. These deliberate attacks, chillingly executed, have the sole aim of killing and maiming innocent human beings. These tragedies of our times can be felt in the hearts of all upstanding human beings. In this time of anguish, good people of all faiths must come together to not only condemn but also do all they can to assist the survivors of these tragedies, and also the families of those innocent men and women who lost their lives in the course of commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Husain (an epic event and a symbol of the struggle against injustice and tyranny among Muslims and many non-Muslims all over the world). We urge the Muslim community to stand united against the radical elements and those who wish to sow seeds of conflict and sectarianism within the Muslim community. It is our hope and prayers that those who have committed these evil acts be captured and given swift justice for the heinous crimes committed against the innocent victims.
We pray to Allah SWT to rest all the deceased souls in peace and grant them the loftiest place in the hereafter. We also pray to Allah SWT to give strength to the family members and survivors of these tragedies to bear the suffering and the loss in these difficult times.

Please recite Sura Al Fatiha for all the Marhooms.

Based on moon sighting information for the Seattle area, we have created an electronic calendar for the important Islamic occasions during 2010. The calendar uses the iCalendar format (ICS) that can be imported into your favorite calendar application (Outlook, iCal, Windows Live Calendar, Google Calendar, etc.). The calendar can be downloaded from here and imported into your calendar application. Qur’anic Arabic class

IMAN will be hosting an ongoing series of regular weekly classes in Qur’anic Arabic. The goals of the class include:

Properly pronounce and read Quranic verses
Expand their Quranic Arabic vocabulary
Understand the etymology of Arabic words that are most commonly occurring in the holy Quran
Understand the sentence structure in the Arabic language
Develop a basic understanding of Arabic grammar

Saturday Community Village Nights at IMAN

The Saturday Community Village Nights are back! On the first and third Saturday of the month, IMAN will be hosting a community night. The goal is to provide a family friendly atmosphere, pray & eat together and to build community. The attendees may choose to play a board game or do a project with a child,watch a lecture video, discuss an Islamic book, etc.

Initial objectives:

Building an Inter-generational Islamic community, in a family friendly way
Opportunity for peer/study/discussion groups to form for youth & adults
To gauge interest in forming a youth & family Committee
To gauge interest in creating a Muharram youth winter program
